While walking around the mall with a teenager I know, I learned quite a bit about what the current trends for 2012 are when it comes to fashion accessories. She would speedily run from one display to the next and when she actually stopped for a few seconds those were the items I took note of. I’m going to level here; the trends are all over the place! From vintage, to feathered accessories, to bright rainbow colored, and tribal jewelry, there is something for every taste. Here is what I saw!

Feathers

My crazy teenager was NUTS about feathers. She especially excited me over the peacock feathers, which come in everything imaginable. Feathers can be found in headbands, hair clips, belts, scarves, handbags and more. I’d like to stop here and give a shout out to the band Aerosmith’s front man Steven Tyler. I believe he started this trend when he became a judge on American Idol. I love it. Some of the feather earrings are super long so they look like they are right in your hair. It’s a beautiful style and they come in every color imaginable to match any outfit.

Vintage

There is something so incredibly cool about everyone wearing vintage jewelry and clothing. It’s like stepping back into the 1920’s. Vintage pearl necklaces are to die for, and I love the bib style necklaces and bracelets that tie with a ribbon. It’s so feminine and lovely. I think it’s important for all women to have girly moments and vintage style accessories are perfect for that. Of my favorite vintage accessories, I saw some drop key earrings, and some bangle bracelets that came in a sort of copper finish that could be paired together easily. I also adore the brooches, and the fact that the feather trend is also incorporated in with the vintage.

Bling

Does bling ever go out of style, really? I saw some spectacular crystal bling that also came in the form of those large, in your face rings that still seem to be hot. I love the look of the big, bling-style rings but I personally am always afraid I’m going to snag someone’s clothes or hair (mine even) on one of them. It could be a potential disaster. When my teenage buddy picked out her bling, she went with some drop style chandelier earrings, and a gem bracelet with black and white crystal. I asked her what fancy event she was going to wear them to and she said, “School.”

Bold colors

If you want some color in your wardrobe, you’re in luck this year! There was every blinding color of the rainbow available in accessories, in just about every store we went in. Neon is still a big hit. I was brave and got some neon pink ear studs. She chose a ring/watch with a bright pink background, and a collar necklace that sported a large red heart, which I guessed was for Valentine’s Day.

All in all it was a fun shopping trip. The best thing was that all of these trends seem to incorporate with one another well. I didn’t find any neon vintage but other than that they were. Maybe next year we’ll see more of that. Happy shopping! J
