Though ageing is a natural process in all creatures, the industry of beauty, health and fitness has ended up turning them into business ventures specifically targeted at women.

Women are eternally worried about their physical appearance and end up being specimens of a host of cosmetic surgeries, fat reduction and beauty gimmicks. Statistics says that more women than men in the age group of 35 – 39 are on mood altering drugs such as anti-depressants and tranquilizers.

The genetic design of women aids them in leading a longer life than their male counterparts. This is owing to their increased tendency to be on their toes all the time handling family responsibilities and daily household work.

But, in today’s world, the ‘active role’ in terms of physical work for women has come down drastically owing to mechanization. However, it is still possible for women to stay fit by following a simple fitness regime. If we start acknowledging the fact that we can add on a little bit of movement to all our activities, we have scored a point. Along with this a little focus on our food will make a world of difference.

Let’s make a checklist where women are ‘empowered’ to make the difference:

  • Women set the clock ticking in every home – wake up and sleep time is determined by us: a ten minute slot added in the beginning or end is time for movement.
  • Women play an extensive role in the household chores during the day depending on if they are working or home making. A time slot set aside for 10minutes in the routine would be meaningful.
  • Women’s role in supporting the spouse and getting a child ready to school is phenomenal. Here she can pitch in a 5-minute stretch break to liven up her spirits.
  • Along with these daily chores, she has her part in taking care of her own job, parents, in-laws, all the helping agents at home, the other relatives and friends who are important. Here another 5 minutes.

In a day, if we can account to setting aside 30 minutes for movement, we have made it.

You might wonder if all the chores mentioned above lack movement? Well, not exactly, but focused way of doing these with a bit of stretches and exercise poses pitched in, it will help in improving our longevity and fitness levels and will lessen the frequency of our medical visits giving us a tremendous sense of well being.

In the coming weeks, let’s to generate a regular fitness routine and diet schedule for an illness-free life.
