Pregnancy tips for working women

In today’s world, the number of working women, working out of home, working at home, and working part time is increasing as opposed to women who opts to remain a home maker. Various reasons like monetary needs, personal interests, economic independence play a major role. So, when you get pregnant, the first thought a woman gets is, what becomes of her work now. It’s easy! Keep working and have a healthy pregnancy in the bargain. Here are a few pregnancy tips.

  1. Eat healthy. Avoid those foods that trigger nausea. Just steer clear of the room, if necessary. Drink a lot of fluids. Snack often. Snack healthy. There is nothing like eating too much or too less. Eat sufficiently. Eat a lot of vegetables, fruits and carbohydrates too. Do not forget your prenatal pills.
  2. Wear loose and comfortable clothing. Don’t be self conscious of your bulging belly. If you have it, it will show. You can not forever hide it. Be proud of it. Avoid high heels.
  3. Check out the company policy regarding maternity leave. Be informed about your country’s employment/trade policies. Know your rights. Fulfill your employer duties too.
  4. Inform your employer at the right moment. Not too late, not too early either. Perhaps, after the third month will be a good choice. Inform the approximate dates of your maternity leave. Find out your replacement for the maternity leave, early enough and start mentoring.
  5. Think! What do you want to do after baby is born? Do you want to continue working leaving baby at day care or with a care giver at home? DO you want to work from home? Or do you want to quit. Whatever you choose, there are a lot of ways to keep things in place with proper planning. But decide what is it that you as a person want to do.
  6. Check out your work posture. Take a few cushions to work and adjust it in such a way that your chair is set comfortably. Adjust your chair and table and work station as physically comfortable as possible. With appropriate permissions, you can even take a replacement chair from home if it suits you.
  7. Take a lot of short breaks. Don’t be stooped onto your work. Walk a lot around the office. You do not want swollen ankles, do you? Take 5 minutes break every 45 minutes. Stretch yourself. Breathe fresh air.
  8. Don’t expect to work with the same enthusiasm and same work load. Take it easy upon yourself. Speak to your employer about a lighter work load. Get a transfer to a different department or different project where the work pressure is less. After you come back from your maternity leave too, you would need to take things light for a while.
  9. Hire a domestic help at home or request a relative to help out. Do not expect to cook for yourself and family with the same vigor. Your energy levels are bound to be at a low after a hectic day at work.
  10. Discuss and share with your husband/partner. Keep him involved and accountable. You are making a baby together. You are both in it together. Love and cherish your special moments. Things will fall and stay in place.

Treasure your bundle of joy. Hold your life close at heart.
